Alicja Kwade

Alicja Kwade (b.1979) is a Polish-German artist investigating and questioning the structures of our reality and society and reflecting on the perception of time. Her diverse practice is based around concepts of space, time, science, and philosophy, and takes shape in sculptural objects, video, and photography.

Kwade has exhibited widely across Europe, the US, and Asia, including recent solo exhibitions at Fondazione Giuliani, Rome; Blueproject Foundation, Barcelona; de Appel Arts Center, Amsterdam; ESPOO Museum of Modern Art; Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen; Kunsthalle Mannheim; and YUZ Museum, Shanghai. Her work has been presented in group exhibitions at the Hayward Gallery, London; Madam, Luxembourg; the Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach; Kunsthalle Wien; the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit; and CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco, among others. Kwade has been included in Desert X AlUla, the Thailand Biennale, la Biennale de Québec, the Helsinki Biennial, Biennale Polska, and la Biennale di Venezia. Her works are held in major collections across the world, including those of K11 Art Foundation, Hong Kong; the Center Pompidou, Paris; the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington DC; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk. Kwade is represented by 303 Gallery, König Galerie, Kamel Mennour, and i8 Gallery. She lives and works in Berlin.
