Tuwaiq Sculpture 2024

DESCRIPTION

The 5th edition of Tuwaiq Sculpture unfolds under the theme Dimensions of Movement which explores concepts of progress, modernity and the ever-expanding horizons of human aspiration.

As is customary, Tuwaiq Sculpture extended an invitation, through an open call, to both local and international sculptors, to propose innovative ideas for large-scale public artworks. These submissions were meticulously evaluated by a jury panel of experts and artists invited to Riyadh, to bring their artistic visions to life as majestic sculptures.

From 23/07/2023 to 10/09/2023

Tuwaiq Sculpture announced the open call, inviting local and international sculptors to submit proposals for original, large-scale public artworks, resulting in over 650 submissions from 84 countries.

The jury panel of experts evaluated each submission based on six criteria: Artist Experience, Concept Presentation, Relevance,  Artistic Approach, Originality, Technique and Style.

The Jury Panel for Tuwaiq Sculpture 2024 included: Marek Wolynski, a specialist in large-scale projects and cross-sector partnerships, who returns as Executive Curator following his successful stint in the same role for the 4th edition; Dr. Khulod Albugami, a sculptor and Assistant Professor at the College of Art and Design at Princess Nourah University; Nojoud Alsudairi, Co-founder of Syn Architects, an artist and architect whose practice focuses on identities rooted in urban contemporary Saudi culture; Dr. Fahad Aljebreen, a sculptor and Assistant Professor at the College of Art Education in King Saud University; and Sebatiano Barassi, a curator and art historian who has held curatorial positions at the Courtauld Gallery, the University of Cambridge and the Henry Moore Foundation in the UK.
