Tuwaiq Sculpture 2024

The 5th edition of Tuwaiq Sculpture unfolds under the captivating theme ‘Dimensions of Movement’. Reflecting on the 4th edition, which brilliantly embraced the theme ‘Energy of Harmony’, it set a precedent that the subsequent year will eagerly take up. As is customary, Tuwaiq Sculpture has once again announced its open call, extending an invitation to both local and international sculptors to propose innovative ideas for large-scale public artworks. These submissions are meticulously reviewed and assessed by a jury panel of globally recognised experts, who finalise the selection of artists. These artists are then invited to Riyadh, where they bring their artistic visions to life as majestic sculptures.

For this year’s edition, Marek Wolynski, a specialist in large-scale projects and cross-sector partnerships, holds the role of curator, returning from his successful stint as executive curator of the 4th edition, which was held in 2023. The expert jury panel for 2024 boasts the inclusion of Dr. Fahad Aljebreen, a dedicated sculptor and Assistant Professor at King Saud University who also serves as the Associate Curator of Tuwaiq Sculpture 2024, the first Saudi national to take up a curatorial role at the symposium; Dr. Khulod Albugami, a noted sculptor and academic; Nojoud Alsudairi, the Co-founder of Syn Architects, a gifted artist and architect whose works are deeply rooted in the nuances of urban contemporary Saudi culture; and finally, Sebastiano Barassi, a seasoned curator and art historian. Barassi’s vast experience encompasses curatorial roles at the Courtauld Gallery, the University of Cambridge, and the Henry Moore Foundation in the UK.
