Random International’s When Tomorrow Comes / I (2023) is the newest work in the group’s Life in our Minds series, which simulates different breeds of flocking organisms, each one imbued with its own sense of life. The installation digitally recreates swarm intelligence—a phenomenon that plays a crucial role in the evolution of animals as well as in human development.

The viewer is invited to immerse themselves within the installation’s flock; their physical presence casts a digital shadow, prompting the organism’s real-time response and establishing an interplay between two worlds. Through the expressive power of movement, the flock generates an apparent agency, exploring our human urge to engage emotionally with possibly sentient, artificial entities.
