Picnic cones

Lúcia Koch uses the ephemeral quality of light and mist to alter the surroundings and transform the landscape. Picnic Cones responds to Salam Park and the desert-like expanse bordering Wadi Namar Dam, using projected colored “rings” that embody lampposts. Her work engages the local community and draws attention to the usual social practices that take place in those leisure sites. Creatively melding light with existing structures, it explores the intricacies of park design and how people adapt to these spaces, recognizing the significance of night picnics and walks as important moments of sociability.
