Falling Lightning Bolt appears as a beacon in a desert landscape: the sculpture of a serpent reminiscent of the artist’s personal mythologies. This being merges with the shape of a lightning bolt and performs two functions – as a sundial during the day and a source of light at night. The sculpture emerges from the ground as if the creature was aiming to enter the bowels of the Earth, or as if it had just fallen from the sky. This enigmatic beast echoes Guadalupe Maravilla’s ancestry and his journey as a healer and survivor of cancer.
