Starting with a singular beam of light emerging from the pitch black, At the Beginning is an imaginary recreation of how the world began. While the origins of the world have been the subject of mythologies and scientific theories throughout history – from the Big Bang to the Cyclic universe – Mariko Mori suggests her own poetic vision based on light. In a context devoid of time and space, the world horizontally splits in half, and the light dimension opens up to reveal itself. From this appears a bright, blinding light which exists on its own. Through this visual narration, Mori retraces the beginning of our world to this luminous source, placing light at the very foundation of our origins and history.
