350 x 30 m
Diana Thater’s A Wild Kingdom is one of the largest video art projections ever made. The monumental 6-channel projection shown against a cliffside in Wadi Namar spans over 400 meters across and 30 meters tall. It is composed of imagery shot by the artist in locations around the world, such as Kenya and the Caribbean. The video was made using footage of wild animals, including African elephants and dolphins in their natural environment. Thater is concerned with humanity’s distanced and mediated relationship with the natural world. The bold, larger-than-life presentation is intended to bring the creatures closer to the public. The title is inspired by the eponymous popular American television series. Like its namesake, A Wild Kingdom aims to increase environmental awareness by highlighting the majesty of nature and reminding us of the fragility of the natural world.
