Tobias Rehberger is one of the most influential German artists of his generation, with a practice that ranges from painting and performance to design and architecture. His projects thrive on chance connections and unexpected encounters, playing with each of his crafts on a new level. Rehberger’s installations aim to change the relationship the viewer usually entertains with art, and play on the concept of transformation, which is central to his art. His work is recognizable by the use of geometric planes, whether they be opaque or transparent, white or colored, curved or linear, resulting in various formal compositions. He joins the aesthetic to the functional in order to create environments that are at the intersection of reflections about perception, awareness, temporality, discontinuity, and ambiguity.
Tobias Rehberger’s work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, notably at YUELAI Art Museum, Chongqing, 2023; Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, 2022; Tinguely Museum, Basel, 2020; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, 2019; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Busan, 2018, to name a few.
