Bahraini artist-architect Noor Alwan (b.1990) and artist-designer Abdulla Buhijji (b.1994) work together as Theories of Imagination, or TOFI. An interdisciplinary collaboration with an approach that is speculative, exploratory, and whimsical, TOFI develops fantasized works of art and creative spatial perspectives rooted in cultural insights and research. Among the topics explored by the collective are the relationship between the self and the other; individuals and their contexts; and identity and memories across time. They work at the convergence of art and technology, developing interactive experiences that offer new ways to perceive present and future landscapes.
TOFI has been commissioned by Misk Art Institute, Bahrain International Airport, and the Bahrain Pavilion for Expo 2020 in Dubai. As independent artists, Alwan and Buhijji have exhibited across the MENASA region and Europe. Alwan and Buhiji live and work in Dubai and Bahrain respectively.
