Sara Almutlaq is a designer, curator, writer, and visual artist, who originally trained as an architect at Columbia University. She utilizes critical theory to produce speculative works of art, design, and curatorial interventions that respond to contemporary issues in society. Her works make these philosophical bodies of thought tangible through an intervention in and understanding of the physical and visual attributes of our material world. Her work features mediums ranging from found industrial materials like fiber-optic wire and street signage to sculptural apparatus like concrete, resin, and rubber.
Recent exhibitions include the Masaha residency program at Misk Art Institute in Riyadh and “Painting Intensive Summer Show” at the School of Fine Arts, Columbia University, New York. Her writing has been published in platforms such as KoH-Collective, Ithraeyat and Columbia University’s GSAPP 2019 catalogue.
