Max Hooper Schneider’s polymathic practice explores new technologies and how different fields interact with them, from biology to philosophy, landscape architecture to different subcultures. His work looks at ideas around the aesthetics of philosophical subjects such as succession, abandonment, and the uncanny, and creates habitats and installations that materialize and dramatize nature in diverse ways. Throughout his practice, nature is conceived as a process of ceaseless morphogenic modulation in which bodies, as formed matter, are continuously created, transformed, and destroyed. Obsessive travel, documentation and field work in distant regions, and the sacrificing of his own material compositions to environmental elements, remain integral to his artistic procedures.
Max Hooper Schneider was featured in group exhibitions at Palazzo Bollani, Venice (2022), Centre Pompidou-Metz (2022), Belgrade Biennale (2021), Istanbul Biennale (2019), and the Baltic Triennial in Vilnius (2018), among others. He also had his first European solo show at MO.CO Panacée, Montpellier (2022) and several others in the United States.
