Bertha Shortiss (b. 1968) grew up in the mountains of Switzerland surrounded by stone. She began working with stone in her younger years, venturing into different materials such as wood, bronze, snow, ice and recycled materials. Her works are organic, growing forms inspired by nature and life in general. From 2001 to 2005, she participated in the Binational Art Project Kieswerk, Weil am Rhein, Germany. With her work installed in public spaces and parks, Shortiss has also participated in various international symposiums worldwide, and has been featured in exhibitions in different countries. She works between Ireland and her studio in Altdorf, Switzerland.
