Untitled

Untitled is a site-specific installation in the form of a LED screen billboard that intentionally obstructs the view behind it – offering instead the artist’s depiction of the view that it shields. Through the pixel frames of the video, the piece manages to both animate and warp the reality it obscures in a playful manner. Drawing on Makhshoush’s interest in liminality and placelessness, he distorts reality with the timelessness of 8-bit/32-bit graphics and the introduction of different glitches. While he uses the technique masterfully, its limitations also form part of its inherent nostalgia and allure.
