In Smith´s Spiral City, the spectators can see a variety of different angles of Mexico City from above; hovering from afar and giving a nostalgic feel of what everyday life in the suburban streets look like. Shot in widening spirals, this film acknowledges a city that is prone to constant erosion, a city that has constantly rebuilt on top of itself, displaying an urban architecture which was constructed and collapsed. The artist invites the audience to take a moment to observe the film and experience the continuation of time where nature and human interventions collide. A collection of black and white photographs and a series of paintings also take part in this series. Together they make up a testament of an urban expansion which has no limits, a realization of urbanization as social experience.
