I Will Take The Sun Into My Eyes

Abeer Sultan’s I Will Take the Sun Into My Eyes (2023) is a newly-commissioned video installation that explores the idea of discovering an alternate yet realistic world through visual storytelling. Inspired by the color blue, the piece plays with the boundaries between reality and fiction.

The three-screen channel of the installation showcases the cityscapes of Riyadh and Jeddah and their encounters with each other. Decaying palm trees in the installation’s space are used as a contrast to the lively cityscape, creating a sullen atmosphere. Through this piece, Sultan explains she is portraying a story that can be vulnerable to manipulation through her mobility and the boundaries she sets for herself.
