Younes Rahmoun creates a minimalist body of work, conducive to moments of meditation, in which influences from his own universe blend with a quest for universality, spirituality, and exchange. In his installations, videos, drawings, and performances, the artist probes the elements, from the most fluctuating to the most immutable, the invisible part of things as well as vital essences: the atom, the heart, the seed, the flower, or the light. Inspired by the teachings of Islam and Sufism, as well as Islamic architecture and ornamentation, he has found in spirituality and numerology the framework for his work. His projects often take the form of a variation on the concept of harmony, of the cohesion of beings, through the juxtaposition, accumulation, and repetition of symbols and simple forms.
His work has been shown at the Tripostal, Lille, 2019; the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, 2018; the Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2012; the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, 2008; Dakar Biennale, 2018; and Venice Biennale, 2017.
