Vivian Caccuri creates situations that disrupt the everyday experience, challenging perceptions ingrained in culture and cognitive structures regarding sound and music. She investigates the physical, sociopolitical, and spiritual impact of sound, especially the unwanted or subaltern ones. Her interest in sound that is abundant but situated at the margins of society has also led her to pay attention to mosquitoes and other insects, mixing scientific data and fiction. Focusing especially on sound for the meaning and history it carries, as well as for the bodily experience it generates, her work opens up sound’s psychology and context.
Her work has been shown in several solo and group shows including “The Shadow of Spring”, New Museum, New York, 2022; the Venice Biennale, 2019; “General Ecology”, Serpentine Galleries, London, 2019; the Bienal do Mercosul, 2018; the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, 2018; Future Generation Art Prize at Pinchuk Art Center, Kiev, 2017; and the Bienal de São Paulo, 2016.
