Noor Riyadh
Born in 1953 in Ann Arbor, USA. Lives and works in New York City, USA.
Since the 1970s, the writer, photographer and filmmaker Sam Samore has been known for his enigmatic pictures of anonymous faces and large-scale post-conceptual photography. Produced in a cinemascope format, his photographs, of varying sizes, resemble moments of imagining, poetic fragments, short stories and allegories where psychological tension and mystery are played out. Sitting between reality and fiction, his stills generate narrative intensity, while the subtle, velvety grain of the images remains pictorial and resolutely contemporary.
Recent or notable solo exhibitions include Galerie Gisela Capitain, Cologne, 2015; Capitain-Petzel, Berlin, 2012; D’Amelio Terras, New York, 2011; MoMA PS1, New York, 2006; Casino Luxembourg, 2000; De Appel, Amsterdam, 1994; and the Kunsthalle Zurich, 1994.
