Born in 1975, Seattle, USA. Lives and works in Los Angeles, USA.
With roots in Minimalism, Conceptualism, and architecture, Oscar Tuazon’s work has a direct relationship with the site in which it is presented – as well as with the viewer, often through physical engagement. His inventive objects, structures, and installations, made with natural and industrial materials, can be used, occupied, or otherwise engaged by viewers. Tuazon turns art and architecture on their heads as he twists, combines, and connects steel, glass, and concrete alongside two-by-fours, tree trunks, and found objects. This cross-disciplinary approach produces objects and environments that draw on humanity’s relationship to buildings and update ideas of utopia that informed the art of the 1970s.
Oscar Tuazon has exhibited at Kunstmuseum Winterthur; Kunsthall Bergen; and Kunsthalle Bielefeld, all 2023; Sao Paulo Biennale, 2021; Skulptur Projekte Münster, 2017; Venice Biennale, 2011; Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, 2010; Seattle Art Museum, 2008; Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2007, and many more.
