Born in 1959 in Mexico City, Mexico. Lives and works in Paris, France. Renowned as one of the forerunners of virtual and digital art, Miguel Chevalier uses computer technology to create generative and interactive virtual-reality installations. Taking references from the history of art, the artist reformulates them using digital tools and explores recurrent themes such as nature and artifice, flows and networks, virtual cities and ornate designs.
Borrowing at times from kinetic art, his experimental digital works are in constant metamorphosis, plunging the audience into a magical, poetic, and contemporary universe. His recent solo exhibitions include the Ara Art Center et DDP Seoul Light, Seoul, 2023; Gajac Museum, Villeneuve-sur-Lot, France, 2021; LuzMadrid Festival, Matadero Madrid, Center for Contemporary Creation, 2021; Soulages Museum, Rodez, France, 2019. Group exhibitions include Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, Munich, 2023, and Musée du Louvre, Paris, 2022.
