Born in 1974 in Bad Homburg, Germany. Lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
For over twenty years, the German conceptual artist Gregor Hildebrandt has been transforming the remnants of analogue technology into paintings, sculptures and monumental installations, in the manner of an archeologist of contemporaneity. Breathing new life into tapes on which sound and image are no longer audible or visible, but remain concealed, his works return their sensitivity and voice to painting and generic places. As an obsolete vestige of an era when music was embodied into specific objects (a vinyl, a cassette), which are subject to deterioration like a living body, the magnetic tape becomes the abstract element onto which the viewer can project themselves to share a common cultural memory.
