Born in 1986 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Lives and works in Paris, France.
Known for her installations which bring to life frozen-in-time fictitious settings, Bianca Bondi questions humans’ relationship to their environment. Oscillating between fantasy and gloom, bridging gaps between the past, the present, and future, the South African artist transforms familiar places such as kitchens and bedrooms into enigmatic settings, always devoid of human presence. Situated between the mystical and the scientific, her work often uses salt and medicinal plants for their purification virtues, cleansing objects through ritualistic practices. With presiding themes of rebirth and regeneration, her sculptures and installations evolve through time, rejecting hierarchies between all living things and inviting viewers to reflect on their place within a fragile ecosystem.
Bianca Bondi has had solo exhibitions at Crac Occitanie, Sète (2022); CAP Saint-Fons (2022); Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris (2021); Le Voyage à Nantes (2021); and Les Limbes, Saint-Etienne (2018). She has participated in group exhibitions at Lafayette Anticipations, Paris (2023); the Thailand Biennale (2021); and the Lyon Biennale (2019).
