Seungwoo Hwang’s The Whisper of the Wave touches upon the natural forces and processes of nature. There is a Korean word ‘gyeol’, which means the complexity of texture suggesting the sense of touch – physically, perceptually and emotionally. It is similar to the Western idea of biophilia, which refers to a deep connection we feel to the natural world.

‘Gyeol’ is made by the accumulation of basic elements such as lines and dots, which build like molecules into a living mass. This idea has inspired The Whisper of the Wave, which is a wall of rhythms and movement, like natural waves in awe of nature. The form suggests a natural process, where the forces and elements continue to change as an organic process, rather like life itself.

Hwang hopes people will immerse themselves in such thoughts and contemplate their relationship with nature, the environment and humankind.
