Filip Roca’s The Stream (2024) is a light projection artwork that maps generative visuals on a water tower. Inspired by the form and function of elevated water tanks, the newly commissioned installation examines how we engage with different sources of information in the digital age, reimagining the flow of these polarizing narratives coming together to offer a balanced opinion.

The Stream projects colorful graphics onto the surface of the Riyadh Water Tower, utilizing the structure’s iconic stripes as modules for mapping. A fragmented soundscape by musician Zarko Komar accompanies the ever-evolving display. The artwork’s interplay of digital and physical mediums symbolizes synthetic and real opinions, highlighting to the viewer the often disparate sources of information that we are exposed to.

Through his projection, Roca invites the audience to process conflicting data from a more complete perspective, encouraging a collective receptive mindset that fosters open dialogue and idea sharing with the surrounding environment, much like the porous water tower.
