Tuwaiq Sculpture

Khaled Zaki’s The Gift Box represents a standing man holding a gift box in his hands. Zaki has long sought to blend the two great traditions of Italy and Egypt in his sculpture. From 1988 to 1997 he followed his university education in Cairo and Giza with an extended stay in Pietrasanta, a renowned medieval town on the coast of northern Tuscany also known as the ‘City of Artists’. It was there where he amassed his extensive knowledge and formal skill in the processes of making sculpture, drawing inspiration from the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo and the Luxor Museum, which hold between them the most important Egyptian artefacts.
