Khalid Farhan’s Sculpture Dynamics is formed of a group of geometric shapes and symbols, the dynamics of which change from time to time. It is born from a philosophy of nature: the work opens up a mutual dialogue between the sculptural pieces themselves and their place – their movement and harmony – in the open air. In choosing nine pieces of sculpture, Farhan hints at the secrets of life, with nine being considered a lucky number in many cultures.
It is a fine example of dynamic sculpture, wherein it is possible to move the shapes into a number of different configurations. Considered one of the most promising young artistic talents in Bahrain, Farhan works with wood, stone, copper and bronze. His work is inspired by the fundamental contradiction of positive and negative forces in nature. He also considers Freud’s writings to be central to his inspiration, particularly the opposition and integration of the feminine and masculine.
