SpY’s OVOID (2024) is a site-specific installation composed of an illuminated egg-shaped structure suspended over a body of water, which challenges our perception of scale, space and movement. The newly commissioned artwork evokes the primordial form of the egg in its geometry, symbolizing the first place of refuge where life begins and maternal love manifests in its purest form.
Anchored to a bridge near Wadi Hanifah Dam, the 35-meter-high monumental ovoid looms above the lake. It emits a soft red glow from within, pulsing alternately to mirror the steady rhythm of life. From afar, the illuminated structure appears to multiply as it casts reflections on the water below.
This optical illusion invites the curious public to reflect on how our identity is always being shaped by the flow of life.
