Claudia Comte works playfully with shapes both inspired by organic patterns and morphology, including waves, sonar, cacti, and rock strata. Drawing on the powers of communication, knowledge, and symbiosis between animal and plant life, Comte’s objects pay testament to the intelligence and transformative capacities of the ecological world. In Neon Cactus (2020) one of Comte’s most idiosyncratic forms glows in colored neon. A plant synonymous with withstanding environments, requiring resilience as well as adaptation to survive, it conveys the possible future of our planet, while being an optimistic figure with a strong cartoonish character.
