Yusef Alahmad’s Metamorphosis (2024) is an animated artwork that explores change through a dynamic interplay of colorful geometric shapes and patterns.
The newly commissioned work is rich in cultural references, inspired by the geometric art of the Najdi architecture and its decorated doors found in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. The artwork’s vibrant motifs are projected onto local buildings in JAX District, effectively becoming one with their roots.
By recreating historical symbols digitally, the artist bridges the past and the present, inviting the viewer to contemplate the evolving forms as a metaphor for personal and collective change. Through a visual portrayal of transformation, the installation transcends the boundaries of time and space, encouraging reflections on our connected past, present and future. Observing the fluid transitions, the audience also participates in the artist’s ever-changing narrative.
