Existence (2023) by Nilhan Sesalan is shaped in abstract lyrical style. The work resembles a tree with a trunk and intertangling branches that rise above the body. All the while, certain elements steadfastly hold on to the surface of the earth. In this way, the artist ‘melts’ the past and the future together in the same pot through the symbol of the tree, bringing to physical form Sesalan’s socio-cultural reflections on the future. Sculpted out of granite, Existence follows traditional sculpting infused with unique language forms containing personal elements from the artist.
