Ali AlHamoud’s Endless Arrival is a fractured segment of the Arabic word for “arrival,” taken from a larger broken sculpture inspired by Shamsudin Tabrizi’s saying: “Let seeking be your goal, not the arrival.” Tabrizi (1185–1248) was a major Persian poet, recognized as the spiritual instructor of Rumi, the great 13th-century poet, Islamic scholar, and Sufi mystic.
For AlHamoud, the break, or fracturing, in his work symbolizes that arrival is not the end but serves as the starting point for new pursuits, reflecting our continuous journey of effort and growth. While fragmentary in nature, Endless Arrival is a sensual, harmonious piece. Reflecting his skills as a calligrapher, its smooth, flowing lines convey a sense of connectedness, echoing the journey of the broader contemporary society of Riyadh.
