Koros Design Studio’s Connected (2021) is an inflatable art installation comprising two imposing neuron-like structures sending and receiving ‘signals’ in an immersive light choreography.

Inspired by neuroscience and the human brain’s ability to invent cutting-edge computer technologies, the work captures the moment when cells connect to form a complex network that eventually surpasses the capabilities of its individual components.

The giant inflatable neurons are made of hot air balloon textile, a special lightweight fabric stitched using advanced sewing techniques. Their shape evokes the long arms or dendrites of nerve cells, generated using algorithm-based parametric modeling. Viewers are invited to observe how the artwork’s dynamic lighting mirrors the electrical impulses that travel from one neuron to another, rapidly transmitting information. By illustrating how neural networks are constructed, the installation aims to spark curiosity about the mysteries of the human mind and its capabilities in developing machine learning.
