Kimchi and Chips’ Another Moon (2021) is a large-scale outdoor installation that uses laser beams to create a three-dimensional second moon in the sky. The holographic celestial body, visible up to one kilometer away, forms where the beams converge, creating a spectacular visual effect.
Part of the collective’s Drawing in the Air series, the artwork is created by a cross-temporal reflection of sunlight gathered during the day and projected back into the sky at night. This mechanism effectively replays the limited energy of the day, unraveling our dependency on round-the-clock electricity.
By using a finite energy source to power the projection, the artists invite us to consider a world where our relationship with electricity is similar to the one we have with internet bandwidth, which is slow on some days and faster on others. Similarly, in a future beyond fossil fuels, electricity will be fast or slow depending on the weather.
