WADI HANIFAH
Lachlan Turczan’s Aldwa Alsael (2024), Arabic for ‘Liquid Light,’ is a newly commissioned multimedia installation inspired by the wadis of Saudi Arabia. The artwork is part of the artist’s Veil series, which explores light as sculpture. Aldwa Alsael features three planes of light, or ‘veils,’ that shine across Wadi Hanifah — these are made tangible by water vapor in the air. This effectively transforms light into a physical object, allowing it to be perceived in a new, three-dimensional form.
The water below creates a constantly evolving surface that interacts with the planes of light above.
Turczan uses this interplay to bridge the elements of water and sky, forming a visual connection that invites the viewer to ponder on the interconnectedness of the natural world.
