Edoardo Dionea Cicconi’s AKR III (2024) is a sculptural light installation that recreates the aurora borealis by projecting a powerful beam of colors into the sky. It uses the true colors from northern lights data, utilizing a microcomputer.
During the day, AKR III stands as a towering metal sculpture awaiting its transformation at sunset. As night falls, the installation shines a band of shifting colors into the sky, seemingly transporting the polar lights to Saudi Arabia. This dual experience of the artwork during both day and night evokes a sense of wonder in the viewer, immersing them in a metaphysical connection that links the Earth to the cosmos through light.
Grounded in technological innovation, the artwork is a fusion of art and science, inspiring the audience to contemplate their existence in relation to space and time.
