Noor Riyadh
VOUW (est. 2017), pronounced ‘vow,’ is an Amsterdam-based design studio founded by Mingus Vogel (b. 1989) and Justus Bruns (b. 1987). Based on a philosophy they call ‘slowtech,’ the artist duo creates interactive installations that enhance public spaces with mindful technology to rekindle human connection. Often a blend of kinetic design, sensors and lighting, these artworks playfully react to the presence of people, their construction largely informed by the artists’ formal training in industrial design engineering.
The studio established its creative direction with Chairwave, a kinetic installation that encourages spontaneous conversations between strangers.
It was first exhibited at Dutch Design Week 2019, where the artwork received international recognition and was titled Best Social Design by FRAME Magazine. Subsequent group exhibitions where their works were shown include Lowlands, the Netherlands in 2023; Noor Riyadh Exhibition, Riyadh in 2022; and Milan Design Week, Milan in 2021.
