Suliman Al Salem’s work explores the complex theme of the “state of being” through an intricate interplay of language, light, movement, and sound. He employs a diverse set of materials to construct immersive environments, inviting the viewer to experience and contemplate various states of existence. A key aspect of his approach is the use of looped videos, allowing him to record and perpetuate these ephemeral states of being.
Since 2016, Al Salem has been serving as the Creative Director at the studio of Nasser Al Salem’s studio. He made his solo debut in 2020 with an independent exhibition in Jeddah, entitled “Al Hal”. His work has also gained exposure in exhibitions including HAFEZ Gallery’s presentation at Art Dubai 2022; “Durational Portrait: A Brief Overview of Video Art in Saudi Arabia”, Athr, Jeddah, 2020; and Noor Riyadh, 2021.
