Norma Jeane (b.1962), the real name of Marilyn Monroe, is the alias of an artist who does not want to be in the limelight. The only known truth about her life is that she was born on August 5, 1962, the same day Marilyn Monroe passed away in Los Angeles, California. The artist’s decision to respect entire bodily absence materializes in the people she includes in developing and constructing her works, installations, and performances.
Since the mid-1990s, Norma Jeane’s work has been presented internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art and PS1, New York; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin; and Inside-Out Art Museum, Beijing. Her work has been included in Frieze Projects, Desert X, la Biennale di Venezia, the Biennale de Lyon, the Liverpool Biennial, and the Rome Quadriennale, among other major exhibitions.
