Mohammed Alsanie

Born in 1981 in Jeddah, Mohammed Alsanie is a Saudi new-media artist. His work is influenced by the 80s, retro Sci-Fi and the synthwave music genre — soaked in neon and nostalgia — in an attempt to understand the future by recourse to the past. Inspired in this way by retrofuturism, his latest work involves creating seamless and infinite video loops that recall the 1980s maximalist expressions.

Alsanie’s interactive and immersive installations create a balance between the physical and the digital worlds. His 3D scenes, for example, create quasi-imagined realms that are rooted in real places, such as his exploration of the city of Riyadh for Noor Riyadh 2022, and Jeddah in his past work.

Alsanie’s work has been featured in contemporary art events, such as the 2021 edition of 21, 39 Jeddah Arts, alongside other fields, including the MDL Beast music festival and various music videos. He is also an entrepreneur, co-owning the F&B concept chains Wing Zone and Peruvi.
