Born in 1972 in Mulhouse, France. Lives and works between Paris and New York, USA.
On the edge between scientific reality and fiction, Laurent Grasso’s work explores the fragile boundaries of what we know and perceive, questioning the visible and revealing invisible phenomena. Eager to extract the viewer from their temporality, the artist proposes experiences that respond to the complexity of the world, deliberately blurring meaning, prompting reverie, and inviting reflection. His sculpture, video, painting and photography draw on scientific theories and belief systems, as Grasso manipulates images, challenging perception and preconceived notions of reality. Creating new situations based on collective memories and stories, he plays with the senses and the viewer’s subconscious, with the aim of penetrating new, invisible dimensions.
Laurent Grasso’s work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, including: Tao Art, Taiwan, 2023; Jeonnam Museum of Art, South Korea, 2021; Musée d’Orsay, Paris, 2021; Musée Zadkine, Paris, 2020. He has also participated in several international biennales , such as the Sydney Biennale, 2018; EVA International, Ireland, 2018; and the Gwangju Biennale, South Korea, 2012.
