Noor Riyadh
Javier Riera (b. 1964) is a visual artist based in Madrid who casts geometric light projections onto landscapes and vegetation. The artist draws inspiration from Islamic geometric patterns, such as those found in the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain, and the Land Art movement of the 1970s, which was marked by the integration of art with the natural environment.
Riera’s works have received international recognition and have been presented at contemporary art museums such as Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid and the Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre in Avilés, Spain. Some of his recent installations were seen at Vivid Sydney, Sydney (2024), Lumiere Durham, Durham (2023) and Glow Shenzhen, Shenzhen (2022), where he won the Gold Award for best installation. More notably, he participated in Nuit Blanche, Paris (2023), where his creations lit a part of Square du Vert-Galant.
