Established in Jeddah in 2015, Bricklab is dedicated to the examination of design as it intersects with the social, political, economic and cultural networks that implicitly form built environments. By constantly focusing design on the user’s experience, those significant intersections begin to reveal the role of design in their broader cultural development.
Bricklab’s diverse background in architecture, planning, history and theory frames the team’s attitude towards practice. As such, specific research questions are developed for each project, in turn supporting the development of meaningful contributions to any given socio-political and economic context.
Bricklab has worked on a wide range of projects on multiple scales. Over the years the practice has produced experimental materials, designed coffee shops, redeveloped historic buildings, curated exhibitions, and consulted on city-scale masterplan developments. Their work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Architecture Biennale, MAAT Lisbon, Seoul Biennale for Architecture & Urbanism, and Salone del Mobile.
