Born in 1952 in Minerviù, Corsica, France. Lives and works in Paris and in Corsica.
Ange Leccia leads a reflection on the object and on the moving image, through a double activity of visual artist and filmmaker. He borrows his vocabulary from the history of cinema: light, time, and space are the raw materials of his videos. In the 1980s, his Arrangements series, a confrontation of industrial objects in the tradition of Marcel Duchamp’s ready-mades, brought him international recognition. Also known as a pioneer of video art since that time, he makes films based on the repetition of natural phenomena. Encouraging a slowing down of our perception, his poetic images highlight the meeting points between things and elements. His filmic devices are that of pauses, visual alerts, moments of observation, reception, and dissemination. The repetition of objects or images in a loop allows the viewer to grasp the work in the moment, or to apprehend it over time, like the contemplation of an image-movement.
His work has been shown at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Guggenheim Museum in New York; Documenta in Kassel; Skulptur Projekte in Münster; the Venice Biennale; the Seibu Museum in Tokyo; and Hiroshima Art Document, among others.
