تأسس “ثيرد سبيس* استوديو” عام 2022م، وهو عبارة عن مكتب معماري قائم على الفنون والبحث في جدة، أسسه محسن علي (مواليد 1999م) وعبد الله العمودي (مواليد 1996م)، حيث يعتمد الثنائي السعودي البريطاني على خلفيتهما الأكاديمية المتنوعة في العمارة والسينما وتاريخ الفن والهندسة، لإنشاء منحوتات وتركيبات فنية كبيرة الحجم.
ينطلق النهج متعدد التخصصات للاستوديو من مفاهيم “الثالثية” و”الحدية” و”البين بين”، التي طوّرها عالم النظريات ما بعد الاستعمارية “هومي ك. بابا”، حيث تقترح نظرية “الفضاء الثالث” أنه عندما تتفاعل ثقافتان متعارضتان، يُنشئ هذا التفاعل مساحة هجينة تدعو إلى التفاوض والتبادل. يعمل ثيرد سبيس* استوديو عند هذا التقاطع، مستكشفًا كيفية تعبير التصميم ثلاثي الأبعاد عن قصص ثقافية معقدة.
وأحد الأمثلة على هذا الفضاء الهجين هو أحدث تركيبات الاستوديو التفاعلية في الأماكن العامة “مرصد السندباد” في فعالية “سندباد: إني أرى اليابسة في “بلد الفن” بجدة 2023م.
